Each October, the Charles River becomes one of Boston’s most exciting gathering places. Much of the action is free to watch from the riverbanks and bridges.

Follow the Race From Start to Finish

The course begins near Boston University and follows the Charles through a mix of straightaways, sharp turns and some of the Regatta’s most recognizable landmarks before finishing near Herter Park. Along the way, crews pass areas near Weeks Footbridge, Weld Boathouse, Anderson Bridge and Eliot Bridge, giving spectators several chances to catch the action from different points along the river.

More Than a Race

HOCR weekend is part competition, part fall celebration, and part riverside tradition. Beyond the racing itself, the Charles transforms into a lively gathering place filled with spectators, athletes, families, and fans taking in the energy of the event.

Grab a spot by the river and watch the action

At Attager Row, you can explore the Regatta’s main retail area featuring 40-plus rowing vendors, sponsors, and official merchandise. It’s a hub of activity where visitors browse gear, meet teams, and enjoy the festival-like atmosphere. With food, crowds, and constant movement along the river, there’s plenty to experience even if you’re not following every race.

The weekend blends sport, community, and classic New England fall scenery, making HOCR much more than a regatta.
