Location: The Foundry in Cambridge

About the show. Heart Posture is sixteen watercolors built around a single question: not what we do, but why we do it.

Kevin Lee, the resident artist at the Cambridge Foundry, is opening Heart Posture, the capstone show of his residency.

He is interested in the intention underneath an action, what he calls a person's heart posture, and the show holds two of them up against each other. There's the transactional posture, where we act to get something back, to be seen, to keep score. And the non-transactional one, where we do something freely, for love, with nothing owed. Each painting takes an ordinary act and sets it somewhere unexpected, a dancer performing alone in a forest, grown adults playing on a construction site, so the reward falls away and only the reason remains. It's beautiful to stand in front of, and the question stays with you afterward. Find additional details in the show brochure here.
