New England Wild Flower Society's Garden in the Woods - Gardeners Day

Native plants for sale, expert garden advice, fascinating books, all to support environmental programs

On Saturday, June 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrate native plants and the conservation mission of New England Wild Flower Society at Garden in the Woods, Framingham, MA. Gardeners Day offers hundreds of native plants, expert garden advice, fascinating books, and provides an excellent way to support environmental programs. All sales and memberships support the health of New England’s natural habitats through the Society’s award-winning conservation programs.

Beginning at 10 a.m., shoppers may select from an amazing array native plant species and cultivars of nursery-propagated wildflowers, grasses, perennials, and woody plants.

-- Find a remarkable selection of native plants for the wildlife gardener to attract birds and butterflies.

-- Design a garden, consult with our expert horticultural staff for advice, and get the right plant for the right spot in your garden. Enjoy a selection for multi-season interest, spectacular beauty, ecological-appropriateness, and just plain green and colorful fun.

-- A used book sale runs all day with hundreds of garden and nature books yielding treasures for sharp-eyed literati.

Attend a potpourri of gardeners’ events:

11 a.m. Learn about Container Gardening with Native Plants in a workshop. At noon enjoy a picnic on the patio.

1 p.m. Find an Alternative to Lawn in a seminar

2 p.m. Special garden tours

3 p.m. Discover Tree and Shrub Planting Techniques for Urban Gardens. A full day at the Society’s Garden delivers tremendous knowledge of new techniques to make any home landscape even more beautiful.

Explore Garden in the Woods on Gardeners Day with knowledgeable volunteer guides. Even a short walk along one of the many paths in the Garden offers views full of color, texture, rich ideas, and rare plants.

Benefit Canoe Race
8am Registration at Murphy's Mountain in Lawrence, 9:15AM Start
The 30th Annual Lou Marcel Canoe Race to benefit the Special Olympics MA.
Canoe and Kayak "racers" from all over the area participate in a 7 mile canoe meander down the beautiful Merrimack River from Lawrence to Haverhill. Participants will be treated to a fun filled post race reception and awards ceremony at the Crescent Yacht Club. there will be delicious food, beverage and incredible music. This year’s theme is Hippieville. Dress up like your favorite flower child and enjoy a fun filled exciting day.

Rock and Blues Cruise -Ryan Montbleau
Time: 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Location: Boston Harbor Cruises, One Long Wharf, Boston, MA
With their hard-to-nail-down sound (a quirky mix of Americana, folk, blues, ragtime and '70s R&B and soul) and storytelling lyrics, it's no surprise the Ryan Montbleau Band averages about 200 shows a year.

WERS welcomes The Ryan Montbleau Band June 7 at 6pm for a special sunset cruise aboard the Frederick L. Nolan, Jr. Zach Deputy opens.

Will call tickets can be picked up at Boston Harbor Cruises at the gate where the Frederick L. Nolan, Jr is docked beginning 5pm night of show. Boarding will begin at 530pm. Ticket holders must be 21+ unless otherwise noted

Discounted parking will be available at the International Place garage across from the Boston Harbor Hotel just a short walk from Long Wharf. Parking at that location is $5 if you enter the garage after 6pm. The Rock and Blues Cruises are also easily accessible by public transportation by taking the Blue Line to the Aquarium stop.
