In 2004, Spurlock's landmark documentary, Super Size Me, ignited a national discussion about fast food and helped shine a spotlight on the food industry's marketing practices. The film, and Spurlock's follow-up Don't Eat This Book, have been instrumental in focusing attention on the childhood obesity epidemic and helping to mobilize parents, healthcare professionals, and politicians to advocate for restrictions on food marketing to children. In 2007, Spurlock produced What Would Jesus Buy, a funny and moving look at the commercialization of Christmas and its impact on families.

Spurlock is also the creator and star of the highly-acclaimed television program, 30 Days, which examines social issues in America by immersing individuals in a life that requires them to "see the world through another's eyes." In 2006, the series was nominated for a Producer's Guild Award and won a GLAAD Media Award for best non-fiction television series. Spurlock's latest film, Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for worldwide release later this year.

The Fred Rogers Integrity Award, named in honor of the host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, is given by CCFC to a public figure whose efforts to protect children from harmful marketing best embody Fred Rogers' long-standing commitment to nurturing the health and well-being of America's children. The award was given to Senator Tom Harkin in 2005 and Raffi Cavoukian, the beloved children's troubadour, in 2006.
