Smart, Sexy Dum
Dum Girls 2/8
|
|
|

Write about
what you know. That’s what they say. But that’s a lot
easier said than done when what you know is very, very
difficult to bear. That was the challenge Dum Dum Girls’
leader Dee Dee faced when writing the songs for the
band’s moving second album Only in Dreams. “The first
record was basically the first songs I’d ever written,”
says Dee Dee, “and I was thinking nostalgically about
being a teenager. This record, it was pretty much
impossible not to write about very recent, very real
things.”

A Fashionable
Day Trip to RI
Rhode Island is on my
radar these days as three trips are made in less than a week
to check out Providence StyleWeek held at the Biltmore
Hotel. Lots of Mass residents escape to Rhode Island to
unwind in months other than the summer. It is a great day
trip destination for its dining and shopping options.

Rare Ravel Operas thru 2/4
Lust, time management and an obliging work ethic drive the racy
libretto of the delightfully frisky one-act L’Heure espagnole

clocks around town.

This Week's Movie Reviews

Woman in Black is More Silly Than Scary
As a career/fan transition movie, The Woman in Black is
effective. It gives Daniel Radcliffe a chance to do a
grown-up role that has absolutely nothing to do with his
being Harry Potter since he was 12 and, since it’s a
PG-13 movie, it gives the fans that grew up with him a
chance to see their hero slide gracefully out of his
Hogwarts’ robes and into a role that doesn’t have him
waving his wand around at the first sign of trouble.
