No matter how many times you watch the celebrity
chefs on The Food Network create a delicious recipe, chances are you own
attempts at recreating the dish just don’t look – or probably taste – as
good.
The problem isn’t necessarily you. Celebrity chefs have
years of training, a behind-the-scenes culinary staff backing them up and the
chance to edit in the perfect dish if their on-camera creation doesn’t turn out
just right. It’s fun TV, but your at home reality can be a big disappointment.
Not to worry. There’s a locally produced on-line cooking
show, how2heroes.com, that not only demonstrates how to make some incredible
meals, but goes the extra distance to make sure you know what you are doing, and
can coach you on what to do when things go wrong.
“We do everything we can to make sure each video we do is
as user friendly as possible,” said Lynne Viera, president and CEO of
how2heroes. “If people can’t make the same dish in their home, then what’s the
point of doing it?”
The site features a wide selection of topics from Quick &
Easy Weeknight Meals to a special section that will help you master the cooking
techniques the Food Network chefs assume you already know, like how to debone a
chicken or the easiest way to shuck an oyster. Along with demonstrations by a
selection of local guest chefs, the site features some surprise guests that may
not have ‘chef’ before their name, but who still know how to cook.
“We filmed my mom for the apple pie video,” Viera said.
“She’s 79-years old with more than 50 years experience making pies. Who else am
I going to trust when it comes to making crust? She actually turned out to be
one of our most popular videos on the site. People still keep sending in photos
of the pies they made using her recipe.”
