We Won’t Pay! The Nora Theatre Company speaks to the times with Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo’s work of politics and hilarity, We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!, playing at Central Square Theater Thursday, September 4 through Sunday, September 28. In the side-splitting satire written in 1974, the housewives have had enough… prices are high and getting higher and it’s time for them to take matters into their own hands, but the challenge is how to keep their husbands from finding out that they’ve stormed the supermarket! With stolen olives, bird seed, and pasta, this farcical comedy about a housewives’ revolt against out of control inflation looks at hypocrisy, injustice, and liberation with a healthy dose of hysterics thrown in for good measure. We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay! is translated by Ron Jenkins and directed by The Nora’s Associate Director, Daniel Gidron (IRNE Award nominee - Best Director, Small Theater for The Nora’s production of Buried Child). The Boys of Winter: an antiwar play Time: 8:00pm EST Location: Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Ave., Boston Devil Music Ensemble Performs to "Red Heroine" Time: 8:00pm EST Location: Union Square Plaza, Somerville Filmed in 1929 at the height of a martial arts craze, Red Heroine is one of the few remaining early examples of the genre. The story of revenge and redemption follows a young girl as she transforms into a warrior after her village is destroyed by marauding soldiers. Rescued by a Daoist hermit, White Monkey, our heroine learns magic and martial arts to avenge her family. With dazzling battles, sweeping landscapes, and amusing anachronisms, the fi lm is destined to be a pulp classic. Devil Music Ensemble returns to Union Square following last year’s wildly imaginative performance. This year, they will blend modern and traditional Chinese instruments giving an updated sound to this cinematic classic. Performers in the ensembleare: Tim Nylander on drums and Chinese percussion; Jonah Rapino on electric violin, vibraphone, lap steel, synthesizer, and ehru (Chinese two-string violin); and Brendon Wood on electric guitar, lap steel, synthesizer, and electric guqin (Chinese lap steel). After the screening, Devil Music Ensemble will hit the road for a coast-to-coast tour of Red Heroine. Somerville can see them first at ArtsUnion, live in Union Square on Saturday, September 6. This event follows the Somerville Rock & Roll Yard Sale, also happening in the Square Saturday afternoon.
